Dive Trips >> Fiordland

"The scenery in Fiordland is incredible above water and below. This is a magical place which we escape to once a year for a 6 day liveaboard trip." Claire Fox

"A tube anenome in Firodland, they litter the sandy bottoms in shallow bays where we moored overnight."

Getting there is the hard part but it is well worth it! You have a choice of flying in by helicopter, or driving - but first you have to get across Lake Manapouri. The normal point of departure is Deep Cove. There are many Sounds to choose from but even if you don’t leave Doubtful Sound there are enough dive adventures here to last many days.

Sheer underwater walls, some down to 600 metres. Dizzy depths, a fresh water layer you can see, black coral in 10 metres of depth, red coral at 20 - 25 metres, abundant fish and plant life of all kinds - some unique to the Fiords. Spiny Star Fish, Albino Sea Urchins, Tube Worms, Sea Squirts, Sponges, huge Horse Mussels, beautiful Sea Pens and more.

Above water the scenery is so overpowering it hurts your eyes. When it rains, as it often does, the water pours down the fiord walls in majestic waterfalls that fall 1200 to 1400 metres into the sea. Beyond these falls lie high altitude lakes that feed these torrents. At night it is mirror still and magic. You must put this awesome diving site on your agenda before you can say you have dived New Zealand.
