Objectives

The objectives of the course is to train recreational divers in the benefits, hazards and proper procedures for rebreather diving on the KISS CCR. Divers will develop basic rebreather diving skills appropriate to diving within the normal recreational depth limits of 40 meters using an air diluent for minimal decompression diving.

Qualification

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may engage in diving activities utilizing the KISS rebreather to a maximum depth of 40 msw, utilizing an air diluent (20-21% Oxygen) with decompression stops at 6 metres to a maximum of 5 minutes duration.

Course Completion Requirements

In order to complete the course and achieve the KISS Level 1 Rebreather rating the student must:

  • Satisfactorily complete the written examination with a pass mark of greater than 80%
  • Complete to the Instructors satisfaction all confined and open water skill development sessions.
  • Demonstrate mature, sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution.
  • Complete a CCR refresher Course if there has been a period of 3 months diving inactivity following certification as a Level 1 CCR diver.

Course Details

Prerequisites:

  • Adv O/W Diver or equivalent with 50 dives.
  • Adv EANx Nitrox certification.
  • 17 Years of age or older.
  • Divers medical current within 12 months of the course completion date.

Course Duration:

  • Course must be completed within 4 weeks from the starting date.
  • Theory and equipment sessions, about 8 hours.
  • 2 hrs Confined Water Session.
  • 6 hours open water dives.

Course Cost

NZ$1800.00 - Includes:

  • IANTD manual, registration and ID card.
  • Does not include: sorb, oxygen, air fills, cylinders, travel & accomodation.

Required Equipment

The following equipment is required:

  • A complete KISS closed circuit rebreather.
  • Minimum of one or more of:
    • CCR computer integrated to an O2 sensor
    • Constant PO2 CCR computer
    • Nitrox computer
    • Bottom timer and depth gauge
  • Mask and fins
  • A suitable line-cutting device.
  • Slate & pencil.
  • Reel with a minimum of 50m of line.
  • Lift Bag / Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) with a minimum of 12 kg lift.
  • Exposure suit appropriate for the open water environment where training will be conducted.
  • Access to an oxygen analyzer.
  • Appropriate weight.
  • Bailout gas supply cylinder with a minimum capacity of 5 ltrs / 40ft3.
  • Bailout regulator. Off-board bailout assembly is encouraged.
