Poor Knights Islands

Yes its the Poor Knights Islands again. Its 6.00 am friday and we head north from Wellington. We are off on another fantastic adventure. We have included meals on board, the boat for three days diving, cylinder hire, weights and airfills in the price. Great value! By friday evening we are in the Tutukaka Boating Club joining the locals for Happy Hour.
Next morning no one sleeps in. We cast off. No more phones or Faxes. Living on board the whole time lends an extra element of magic to the trip - and we get more dives. There is some real serious but safe diving, and a certain element of play at night. A voluntary curfew means we wake fit and refreshed.
Four safely planned dives in a day is not uncommon. There is no need to push the limits but there is so much to see and do.

A day in the dive log book may read: Northern Arch - visibility 30m, Great Wall - visibility 20m, Terevana Cave - needed a torch, Middle Arch - visibility 20-30m and finally a night dive in Rikoriko Cave.
We saw heaps of the locals and were on first name terms with them all: Nudibranchs, Cleaner Fish, Wrasse, Blue and Pink Maomao, Mado, Demoiselles, Moray Eels, Toadstool Grouper, Carpet Sharks, Eagle Rays, Red Cod, Big Eye, Dolphin, Seals, Sandagres, Porae, Pig Fish, Lord Howe Coral Fish, Butterfly Perch Hiwihiwi, Red Moki, Mullet, Snapper ……
The boat is great, the skipper and crew are great, the diving fantastic! After three days and nights no one wanted to go home but it was time. Back in Wellington we plan our next trip. We presented PADI Deep, Night and Multi-level Diver Specialty ratings.
