Why?
Anyone who spends time near water loses things in it, or is there when someone else does. You may want to recover objects already "out there" - but where? & what if they're too heavy to lift? Develop the skills you need to locate & retrieve lost objects, large & small, within recreational limits Learn how to:

  • Define the differences between Recreational & Commercial S&R divers
  • Distinguish between the 2 types of recreational S&R diving
  • Plan successful & safe S&R dives in various environments
  • Avoid the potential hazards of S&R diving
  • Determine which search patterns are best for various S&R environments, &
  • Recover sunken objects (including awkward &/or heavy objects).

What's involved?
Theory of S&R diving, practice on land, 4 supervised open water dives in which to learn & practice your new knowledge & skills, including:

  • Pinpoint an objects U/W location from the surface (without seeing the bottom)
  • Useful underwater search patterns & techniques
  • Appropriate U/W rigging & knot tying techniques, &
  • Use of appropriate types of lines (ropes), penetration reels, lift bags (dumpable & non-dumpable), surface marker buoys, shot lines (surface & U/W deployment) & other S&R equipment. The most toys of any dive course!

What do I need to start?
You must be at least either PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver qualified or equivalent or
PADI Junior Open Water Diver &PADI Junior U/W Navigator qualified or equivalent (just ask us!).

What's it cost?
$345, including SCUBA cylinder hire & certification as a PADI Search & Recovery Diver.
