Just bring your favourite BBQ food and anything else for a shared meal. You are welcome to bring beer or wine etc for a social evening, we will supply tea, coffee etc. Check our location out on www.scubadiving.co.nz then “where are we”
We present certificates as well so be there to get yours. All friends are welcome whether they are divers or not.……..
Next Crew Night
Our next speaker will talk on a nautical period in NZ’s martime history of drama, intrigue, danger, deception, incarceration …. We will present a graphic account to the German Raider “Wolfs” activities around NZ during WW 1. There were a number of sinkings through mines and gunfire – one very close toWellington. One of those wrecks has been dived twice, and very recently.
Don’t miss this fun evening. It will be excellent so bring friends, everyone is welcome. ps you don’t need to be a diver ………..
Last Speaker
Last meeting, our Quizmiss ran a highly entertaining quiz night. There were several spot prizes, with noone being really sure who the overall winner was. It was a great night.
There was a good crowd for the last of 2011 and lots of intense interest, it was an excellent evening.
Farewell
Sadly we have to say farewell to Graham and Tess. Tess is posted to Auckland to be a very important Bank person. Graham didn’t fancy cooking his own meals so he decided to go as well. You will be missed – but you are on the way to the Poor Knights.
Welcome
A warm welcome to Peter Baker who is now our Retail Guy. He hails from the far North. Peter has a background in farming, is keen on looking after the ocean environment – and is a PADI Instructor. Peter is not a CCR diver – yet.
SCUBA & Snorkel Packages
There has been a dramatic drop in our package price for dive gear. Walk in with no dive gear, walk out fully equipped to:
Snorkel dive – for only $499.00
Scuba dive – (with cylinder as well, but not lead) for only $1,800.00
GoPro Cameras
We are NOW stockists for GoPro HD Video Cameras. For those of you
who haven’t heard of them they are small cameras that come with a range
of different mounting options which make them ideal for filming diving,
skiing, driving or just about any activity you can think of. They come
in a range of models with different attachments available to make them
perfect for whatever you need them for.
Starting from $349.00 they are excellent for still photography and even better for underwater HD videography. They are rated to 60m.
For those of you who already have the cameras we will be stocking flat lenses which will get rid of the underwater focusing problems you get with dome lenses. Flat lens only conversion will cost between $50.00 and $75.00 depending whether we fit it for you or you do it yourself.
Make a Donation to save the sharks.
This project is gathering momentum but needs funds. You can help by donating on – http://www.projectaware.org/donate?utm_source=Global%2Bappeal%2B&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Sharks%2BIn%2BPeril
Advanced Open Water Course
We are incorporating this course into our Thursday after-work dives. Each Thursday we will offer a different dive, depending on the weather. Dive with us five times and (weather dependant) you will qualify for your Advanced Open Water course.
As well as this idea, we will still offer you weekend AOW courses if you are in a hurry.
Underwater Archaeology Special
We are offering our exciting new Wellington based PADI Underwater Archaeology Specialty over two days/four dives but for the price of a two dive Specialty. Save $150.00 and learn some real exciting local maritime history.
We start with a unique powerpoint presentation and then head for the dive sites. Two dives Sat and two dives Sun. This programme is unique to NZSA but will be recognised world-wide.
Archaeology may sound as dry as dust but it is great fun and a service to our nation. Now you can take part without the expense of travelling to far-away places.
Should be $395.00, now $245.00, save $150.00. Call us on 233-8238 to book your place.
PADI Instructor Development Courses
We have three IDCs scheduled this year. Each is followed by an Instructor Examination. The course is in two parts, Assistant Instructor and Open Water Scuba Instructor. For more details email us at tony@scubadiving.co.nz.

GEM Gas Extender Mechanism
This is a light weight, simple, safe, fun way to extend the duration of your cylinder. If you usually finish your cylinder before everyone else, attach a GEM to your cylinder and you will solve the problem. No more twin 15 litre cylinders required.
The GEM is a simple rebreather that allows you to dump 1/3 of every breathe and recycle 2/3s. You will use a 36% to 40% Nitrox mix, so get the longer no-deco benefits of Nitrox as well. The GEM has a safe diving range down to 30m, your recreational dive limit.

We have drysuit Arctic undergarments, beanie, wetsuit long sleeve and vest tops and wetsuit socks in stock. They are far superior to any undergarment or wetsuit vest sold in Wellington.
The slightly thinner Xerotherm drysuit long sleeve top and legging undergarments will suit you if you get too hot in your drysuit using an Arctic!!
We now have a range of wetsuit undergarments.
We are so sure of their quality that we guarantee satisfaction. If you buy one and it doesn’t increase your thermal protection we will offer you a full refund when you return the garment. Some conditions apply.
DRYSUITS
Over the years we have been very successful in getting divers into drysuits. Our popular brand is Oceandry and they have a new model out now.
The Freedom Drysuit is a 3mm hyper compressed neoprene with a front zip, telescopic body with latex or neoprene seals and retails at $2,355.00. Front zips mean you do not need someone to zip you up…
The Bravo 4mm hyper compressed neoprene drysuit is the traditional back entry zip. This titanium lined suit is well tested and retails at $2140.00.
The Xeric 3.5mm hyper compressed neoprene is the sport version which retails at $1,955.00.
We can also provide Otter and Viking membrane stock drysuits which require an undergarment.
Shearwater Review
I bought a Shearwater multi-gas computer to interface with my KISS Classic rebreather. However on several occasions I have dived it using SCUBA. When I compare it to previous multi-gas computers I have owned I am amazed. Switching gases above or underwater is the easiest I have experienced. All functions are controlled by two touch buttons. These are reliable and can’t jam. While there are a lot of menu functions, there are very few you need on each dive. The process is easy as the menu is scrolled by one button and is accepted by the other. It has big graphics and is easy to read under water. It is back lit and that brightness can be controlled. I was diving deep, using trimix and doing two gas changes and knew instantly which gas was which. The battery is user replaceable after 100 hours.
The switch from OC to CC is really easy. It monitors the CCR oxygen sensors by cable, or it will calculate deco using a set PO2. Any data that appears incorrect to the computer will result in that data being highlighted in bright red. That is very easy to read.
Any decompression obligation is clear showing the stops and time required.
This is a great tool for safe diving. If you are a little older or a wee bit unfit, you can set a conservative factor that will allow for that. This computer is a must for deeper, longer SCUBA or CCR dives. TonyHowell TDI:IT
SHEARWATER COMPUTER FEATURES

These are really safe and simple re-breathers.
